Antonio

Antonio_Magazine-7.jpg

Had the pleasure of shooting dancer Antonio, last week. I think we made some awesome pictures for her and my portfolio. In the future I may concentrate and come up with a dance portfolio specifically for my site. I love action and the creativity behind dance shoots. They can be quite hectic and challenging, capturing the style of the individual while getting the angle, lighting and passion into the shots! I am looking forward to working with more individuals in the future.

Fran was one of my models for the last post on Crisis Pregnancy. I just love the colours in these images from her eyes, hair to her jumper…so I thought I’d give her her own post. Also, cause the above image didn’t really fit the brief : )

Crisis Pregnancy Care, Halifax

_DSC6496

I have been asked to produced some images for the Crisis Pregnancy Centre in Halifax, West Yorkshire. The images are for the charity to put into their flyers and promotions. I think that the images convey the mood that is meant for the advertising. The centre offers free pregnancy advice but also counseling for women who have had a mis-carriage or an abortion.

Hopefully, I’ll be able to put up the final images in the context of the design. Thank you to all who were involved with the shoots!

This is my place to write…

I have set up this blog called “gone walkabout” to be able to separate what I do in the photography world and in my thinking/writing world. My blog will still exist but really only for photos that relate to my business…ie: people. This blog will exist for inspirational writing and photography that perhaps doesn’t directly relate to my business. Instead of people portraits and clients I want to concentrate on the happy and accidental moments of photography. The ones we all enjoy. The ones where you go wandering and find something unexpected.

I love the business side of photography but without a personal element to my pictures I soon lack the energy and passion to create. I will be putting up some images that perhaps you have seen before but I want to continue to make them available as I develop this site.

Also, I want to continue to write. I want to develop that positive outlook and inspiration that I have. I want to go for a wander with my words, alongside my photography. I haven’t been keeping up this part of my creative side lately but I am hoping that I can change that. Hopefully, you stick with me to find out where all this is going.

Hope you enjoy : )

Open Road

It’s out there to travel…go get your dreams and don’t hang around!

Believe!

_DSC4273

America. Big, large and spacious. Yes, I would move there in a heartbeat. There is sugar….everywhere! Drive thru Starbucks, wallmart and some good mexican restaurants. I love it. I get inspired by it and the people there. There is no limit to their drive, passion and belief. You can’t convince them of the negative. Is everyone there like this? No, of course not. But most people, sure, they are – passionate and positive!

I want to be like that. A believer. I want to believe. I want to believe in success. I want to believe there is more and more to life. I want to challenge myself daily to achieve more, bigger and better than yesterday. I want more of life. This medium of photography is my starting point. What is yours?

What makes you tick? What makes you reach out and grab the extra piece of the chocolate cake? What makes you get out of bed in the morning and strive to succeed? Nothing? I venture to you that something needs to change…

You need to believe. You need to believe in the potential that EVERY human being has! You need to see yourself able to achieve, to go get that promotion…to change that job…to love that person…

You, like me, need to see the chances that life is throwing us. The curve balls will come but what is sitting up in our life that is screaming out to be hit for a homerun! Life is awesome…it is inspiring! It allows us to make something out of nothing and it allows us to go out and become the best that we possibly can be. Don’t be the person who waits for change. Don’t wait for the elections to happen before you do something, don’t wait for the petrol price to go down, don’t wait for the girl to ring you!

Life is there to be made. Life is not an accident, no matter what X-factor and the lottery makes you think. Stardom and fame and success will never happen over night! In fact, if it does, rarely does it last. Don’t hope for the good luck to shine. Go out there and apply yourself to your beliefs. Believe you can and go out there and figure how to do it!!

Love life…then go out and LIVE IT!

Behind the bike shed and off the beaten path…

_DSC3261

Behind the bike shed things happen. Things that aren’t allowed or expected. Behind the bike shed people explore, as opposed to the school yard where normality and control remains in charge. As creatives do we concentrate on what is directly before us the majority of the time? Do we stay normal and in control to please those around us? Do we look to see what is obvious and easy to find? I know for a fact that that is often the case with my work, something I have to constantly guard against. If I only see what is on the road that I travel on what do I miss? If I follow another’s example and play it safe because it worked for them will I ever achieve my own direction and passion?

These photos were taken one road behind the road I travel on at least 2 or three times a week. I had to make a decision to venture off the beaten path…to go behind the bike shed to see what really is happening. Nothing shocking arose but I found some images that I haven’t made before.

This principle will apply to so much of your life if you allow it to. What does that button in photoshop do? You know, the one you are afraid of using because you don’t have a clue what it means…go on…try it…it might lead you astray into the unknown. What’s great about coming off the beaten path is that it takes you into that unknown territory. There might be bullies around the corner or maybe even a pot of gold or even some bullies guarding a pot of gold…There will be something there and it might be good or even awesome!

Stepping out into a new business, for example, is like dipping those toes into a stream. Before long you will have to wade out into the stream to see whether or not you will survive. This is off the beaten path. This is where things begin to happen in your life. You won’t be settled for long. Complacency will be shoved aside as you pursue the successful path ahead. That path will be full of weeds, dangers, but it is a path that you are forging! You will create and you will achieve. You will do the exploring and the discovering.

Go look around the corner. Push through into the weeds and allow the path of your life to be created. Rebel against the norm and come out stronger and more passionate about your life! Make that name for yourself. Don’t look behind you and see what went wrong. Look forward and keep going. Pick yourself up when you trip and fall, learn and carry on. Behind that bike shed never looked better…the weeds on the path ahead never looked more attractive! Smile and begin your life!!
