Just catching up on some editing with my shoot with Natasha a couple of weeks ago, nice head shot.

Not really played around with flash and long exposures before, today was the perfect opportunity to experiment as Alliee is quite a good dancer. Hope you like.

Good day today! Photoshoot with Alliee went well. Did some work with her to go onto her website, etc. Some of those pics will go up when they have been cleared. These shots are of Shay. She was the stylist that helped us in the studio. I took some time between changes of clothes to make a picture or two of her. She has a lovely unique style and face so I thought she could cameo in my blog. : )
We were a bit unlucky with the weather today, we were supposed to go outside but it rained so we had to make due with an extension in the studio! Originally, we only had an hour and half but the people following cancelled so we stayed for an extra 3 hours!

Not a lot to tell here except that theses are some basic behind scenes shots for an editorial in a men’s fitness magazine. Don’t want to say too much as the article isn’t out till June/July. It’s basically about a journalist who is training to do a UFC cage fight. He’s has been training since November and is nearly there. Looking battered and bruised his training schedule has been grueling. Personally, I have no sympathy for him – it was his own idea!! : )
I have now finished my weeks work experience, will blog some more later about another shoot we did but will leave you now as I need to get home on the train. It’s not a long journey but I am lacking some serious sleep! Hopefully, Virgin First class will be as relaxing as it was on the way down.

Today hasn’t been quite a photographers dream, more of a touristy day out and time spent on the tube. Adrian had to be in a board meeting this morning for a collaborative that he is involved with. He meets together with some other photographers to discuss their stock photography site.
With me having a morning off, Ben and I, got to go do the tourist thing. Canary Wharf, Big Ben, Houses of Parliament and Buckingham palace were on the list. Didn’t really take any shots, wanted to enjoy the walk and exploration more. Of course, I have seen it all but hey…
Once I made it to Adrian’s nothing was really on the agenda. He spends a lot of time on the phone networking which is actually interesting to hear how he talks to people, etc. As he is really pushing himself to get into motion film using dslrs we tested some lights and some other gear with the Canon 5d mkII then I was done and it was back on the tube home!
Enjoy the simple touristy shots… : )

I am on work experience this week, in London. I am being the dogs body of photographer Adrian Weinbrecht. Check out his, well worth a look. I was recommended by a friend to contact him as she went on a course that he took. His openness to teach and down to earth attitude is refreshing for me. He doesn’t mince his words and being with him one day has opened my mind to some new ideas and ways of doing things. For example, the organisation of all his gear is quite anal (his word!), however, you can see the benefit straightaway as he owns all of his equipment from tripods to fans to several cameras and lot’s of cabling!
His best advice was the first thing he said. Never Assume. F*** ups happen because people assume. Always ask questions, even it’s the same one 5 times. I am glad he said that…only because I like being sure. In the past, in other jobs and stuff, you sometimes get the feeling that a question asked of your boss or trainer is evil. Like there is something up in the sky that will reign down lightening on you if you say something out of line! I am gonna make this attitude is maintained as I train and develop others around me!
The day (Monday 15th, March) was mainly spent hanging around just watching. I watched his assistance edit and sift some work for Lucozade, in the process learning that Phase One’s Capture One program is the industry standard programme for organising and batch editing work. I won’t repeat what Adrian said about Lightroom. : )
Not much was scheduled today but I did get a kick ass salad made for my lunch. Adrian and I then went out and about for a drive up the M1. Was able to really talk about the business, negotiating prices, etc. I felt that he backed up a lot of what I have been reading from blogs, etc but made it more understandable. The context, stories, etc helped me learn quite a bit in a short time.
We were on the look out to do some timelapse photography and some motion filming. The light became flat due a lot of cloud cover so instead of doing that we decided to pull up on the shoulder of a bridge over the M1.

Adrian has been pushing himself to get up to scratch with the new technology regarding dslr’s and motion picture creation. He has spent a lot of money getting the equipment he needs to develop his skills and creativity. His view is that the technology is there and also that there is a gap in the market from your cheap video guy to the high end commercial market. As photographers, who are especially good with light, we can fit somewhere in the middle. I think the next few years will definitely be interesting as video and still photography emerge and combine with all sorts of media opportunities. I am being very careful not to box myself off.
Well that’s it for today. Tomorrow, I am off to the National Portrait Gallery to, hopefully, see the Irvin Penn exhibition. Talk to ya later! : )

I am now in personal work mode. I am actively looking to create new work regularly despite how I feel or how the work situation is. I love being able to develop my skills but more importantly my relationships. I am purposely trying to throw myself into situations where I am interacting with new people, models and clients. All part of my growth as a photographer and a businessman.
Next week I am off down London to do some work experience with photographer Adrian Weinbrecht. My goal will be to try and write a blog a night to, hopefully, share some pictures and my day to day activities. I want to have an informative week and really push myself to learn as much as I can from the business side of things…well, as much as I can in a week.
As I push to see myself expand and my work improve I hope to be constantly updating my work and website so please check back regularly. Also, feel free to ask any questions you may have about my work by becoming a member of my facebook page. Comments and feedback welcomed!
Thanks to all who read. Stay inspired and push to see the best in whatever area of life you are choosing to live in!
