Emma: Wild Swimmer / by andy schofield

"...I think there's a bit of a subversive in me that likes swimming near no swimming signs...

"Although I've been a pool swimmer for years and always loved dabbling in water, it's only in the last couple of years that my confidence to swim regularly in open water has grown.

"I love the freedom, the scenery and the sense of peace that the water creates by blocking out other sounds. Putting my head in the water is like entering a different world. I swim outside to challenge boundries too. It makes me feel strong. Swimming in cold water is an extra challenge but being able to get out of central heated buildings and into a cold lake in November is so refreshing, even if its only a short dip."
